Should you add a little GLOSS?

Does a little shine scare you?? Well we are here to tell you why "gloss" can actually be a GOOD thing... if you use it right.

This is the inspiration picture of a home office we are designing for a
University Park new build... HIGH LACQUER=LUXE!

It will be stunning when completed with this edgy sheen...

Try it yourself! Here are 5 reasons why GLOSS, shine or lacquer will pack
a punch and turn your room to glam!

1. Gloss gives an accent area (wall or ceiling) extra punch.
The ceiling is a fun and different place to add gloss in an unexpected way
that is not too "in your face."

2. Sometimes a glossy neutral takes the place of needing to add a color.
We love the glossy cabinets used in this design, and while there is no "color," the addition of gloss to the neutral gray cabinets gives them just the right amount of unusual that a color isn't needed!

3. Glossy finishes are easy to clean.
Whether it is a paint finish or a glossy tile, this finish is the best and easiest thing to clean!!

4. It can add glamour to ordinary pieces.
Furniture or art pieces can become dull but with the addition of a little gloss, this cabinet turned into a shine of a piece.

The gloss finish applied to this gorgeous art piece gave it a completely different look that turned this entryway into glam!

5. It enhances architectural built-ins.
We love the use of matte and gloss finishes together in this design. It accents important areas of features within a build project.

Yes or No? Will you add a little GLOSS to your life?

Traci Loves Turquoise

I know... I know... enough of the turquoise!  I've had a realization that since my maiden name was Turco, I do think it should have been spelled Turquo...due to my obsession with this color (which is of course ...second to my obsession with "Wicked").

Just when I think that I should find a new favorite color of the season,

my daughter comes home with this...

Remember the post I did a few weeks back after literally falling in love with the
Global Views showroom at the WTC... well if you recall, almost the
entire showroom was draped in turquoise and orange!

I do have to say I had a hand in naming the volleyball team "Cereal Killers"
and then of course,
matching cereal names to their personalities and physical features.

My Avery is the setter on her team and is the smallest gal on the court...
earning the name "Mini Wheat"...
the creativity runs in the family!

Back to turquoise- I had the privilege of meeting with a new client for a few consultations
in her new home- and this "Dell Doll" has  lots of style goin' on!

This is an original art piece that she'd like to place over the mantle in her living room.

With a contemporary look on the rise, we agreed to go white on the main walls,
but paint the fireplace wall
 (with fireplace and mantle included)...

Moving into the adjacent dining room, I think I have her talked
into pulling in the turquoise by
(drum roll please)....
wallpapering the ceiling!

Not all homeowners can pull this off, but Dell Doll has what it takes!

Here are some options:

or maybe...

which may give us a look similar to this- but in the dining room!

or this...

or if we are lucky... this!

While shopping this week, I did run across more glam paired with turquoise.

Crystal Prisms Diamonds are a girl's best friend-

More beauties from Uttermost

Love the details!

I do hope she saves money in the budget to pull off the ceiling...

Here's one last pic today- a sneak peek at The Bachelor's dining room ceiling,
but in a faux finished Olde World look.

It works!

Let's dress your ceiling- call me!

Until next time,
Traci

A Showstopper Copper Ceiling

Congrats to Karen... winner of the CSN stores giveaway!  Next order of business is my visit to Mr. and Mrs. Smith's abode.  Mrs. Smith was not there (I think she was on locating filming), so Mr. Smith was in charge of all the creative decisions... and boy was he excited!

Our objective was to paint his foyer ceiling inset just like the curved copper metal table that sits in the entry way- and I think we nailed it!!

Here is a closeup of the table-

And here is the ceiling!

The faux team in action-

In the end, the entry is quite dramatic and very unique... just like my clients! It fits them!

The finished product...Looking men sculptures from Global Views

To complicate things, I had my art installer hanging "rappelling men" in the same space as well. What to be efficient with time! They took turns:)

The second guy from the right is actually falling off the mountain... we got a kick out of that (it's the small things and yes, it was Friday)

Back to the ceiling:

Another way to achieve a similar look is to purchase tin ceiling tiles already finished in copper.

Tough to pull off for a round space, but nice for a typical ceiling. Cost wise... I think the faux would be more affordable.

Another option for creating the tin ceiling look for a bit less, is to apply anaglypta wallpaper (a huge assortment of textured wallpaper patterns that actually mimic tin tiles) to the ceiling and faux paint it as well.  We just finished this in The Bachelor's dining room, so I will post pics as soon as I take them!

Mind you, this is all fabulous if you are a "buyer" and not a "do it yourselfer".  The thought of me attempting to hang wallpaper on a ceiling is quite amusing and even though faux painting looks incredibly easy, most of the time it will look like your youngest child attempted to finger paint.  Call me if you want to attempt this and I call in the experts... it's worth it!

Until next time,
Traci

p.s. We  My son got a 100 on his scrapbook project!!
