Beauty and the Beach House

We're back in TX!

We spent the week at Brigantine Beach, NJ to celebrate my parent's
50th Wedding Anniversary-
Congrats again, Mom and Dad!

Brigantine is located just outside of Atlantic City,
which of course which allowed us to spend some time at the casinos:)

The beach house we rented was beautiful...
just look at the fabrics throughout the house!

Below is the bathroom where my sister stayed....

This was my bath...
(one of these is not like the other!)

1. Do not put a tiny square mirror over the tiny vanity
2. Do not put the light switches between the tiny square mirror and tiny vanity
3. Do not put the ONLY outlet near the floor

Good thing I'm not high maintenance:)

On a serious note, the three level house was gorgeous
and we had a fabulous week with my immediate and
extended families... it was wonderful to see you all!

We gave my parents a party on Tuesday and I decided that if I lived
any where near NJ/NY, I'd be at least 50 pounds heavier... yikes!

I did take advantage of some "me" time
which I cherished early, early in the morning...

The water, my playlist and my Nikes-

Thank you Mom, Dad, Tom, Tricia and the rest of my
NJ family... we enjoyed our visit very much!

Now... back to work!

Until next time,

A Custom Kitchen in Progress: Part 1

Kitchen Envy...

I've started a new project- basically a gut of a kitchen in
the Knox- Henderson area of Dallas.

My client, New York, New York and I have covered our
bases, starting with the new cabinetry.

I recommended: Custom

NY, NY wants: Semi- Custom

I recommended: Glass fronts

NY, NY wants: All wood

I recommended: The white kitchen above (to get out of my system)

NY, NY wants: The opposite:)

(you see how this is going!)

This is an example of a Designer/Client collaborative effort...
which is working...really it is!:)

Here's the before:

and here is the drawing for the after...
A bit more modern-

The drawing doesn't show the cove crown to the ceiling as well as the
hardware or countertops... I'm crossing my fingers for Silestone and a granite island.

Here's a slight addition on my part:)

Proposed After:

Once we were satisfied with the overall design,
next was the backsplash tile-

I recommended:

Linear mosaic... great colors to go with a silver gray quartz counter

NY, NY wants:

But... with the removal of the tropical brown granite and
addition of some white glass
(my original Plan A until I found the above!)

I'm pushing for the compromise:

Custom tile pattern from Arizona Tile

1. Choose your colors

2. From hundreds of choices

3. Put in the the computer program
by percentage of color preference...

and it's yours-

My job is to propose ideas that will work and
the client makes the decision...

The one decision made is semi-custom cabinetry
by Kraftmaid. I have to say I am impressed with the
multitude of options available.

Visit to see what I mean

I will update as the plan progresses...
I'm glad New York, New York has good taste:)

Until next time,

Do you need a good night's rest?

Here's another find from the Atlanta Market-

If you are wanting a good night's rest and like these pics below,
then you and I have a ton in common!

It's difficult to find transitional bedding that is semi- custom-
most lines are a bit too traditional for my taste
(and client's too:)

But this is a keeper!

You'll find it (and more great looks) at,
including sheets, duvets, window treatments and headboards.

Here are my favorite parts of each set:

Love the splash of the small geometric print on the duvet
and repeated on pillow and panels

The decorative tape on the euro shams says it all!

Check out this color scheme... beach house or guest room?

Greek key tape... can't go wrong with it

Do I need to say more about my favorite color combo?
Blue/Red with a splash of Yellow

Like the chairs from a previous post, many monogramming
opportunities to personalize your bedding and towels!

Simple with a pop of color-

The grey hexagon fabric... speechless

For me.....

I love the graphic look of the chocolate brown with the white contrast

And after a good night's sleep within your
Legacy Linens
just remember this as you rise and shine...

...a surprise from the showroom of Sugarboo Designs

Call me if you are ready to start your master bedroom project...
we've got a headstart:)

Until next time,

Atlanta Market: Home and Arteriors Home

I'm still in Hot Lanta for Market, but woke up early to share
with you some of my trip highlights so far-

As a new member of the National Board of the Interior Design Society,
I have had the privilege of spear heading the first Regional
Conference of IDS- and I was so pleased it was in my hometown!

My goal as an interior designer is to continue to learn about this ever changing
field and share the knowledge with my clients... so get ready!

Here are some of the speakers I heard this weekend:

and many more!

On the airplane, I was pleased to meet the founder of an
accessory line that I have been using through the years...

Arteriors Home is based in Dallas and we chatted about "lead times" which
made be happy since he told me what I wanted to hear!

Check out some of their great items:

Specializing in unique fixtures and lamps-

Accent furniture- of course I spot the nail head piece-

Custom lamp line:
Create your own!

and a vast array of accessories!
If you have ever been to a major Market or the
DallasWorld Trade Center with me, one can easily be overwhelmed
with the amount of product... especially accessories.

Remember my 3 Rules for Accessories:

1: Bigger is better and less of it
2: Work the color
3: Then edit, edit, edit!

Think about making a statement ... but not a lot of statements!

More to come- off to Starbuck's and back to Market for
area rug shopping!

Happy Monday!

Until next time,
