New and Improved Kitchen Storage Ideas

Kitchens are multi-functional spaces.

People gather, people work, people cook, and people lounge.

So what can we do to make a room like this, fit all those titles?? GLAMOUR-GUARD it in ways you've never thought of.

Yes, we've talked about our love of quartz and everything durable, but what about those special ideas built into the space itself? Here are some tips:

1. Build a workspace into the island. One that can come and go as needed, just push it back in for more space.

2. Separate charging drawers for each of our technology pieces

3. Barn doors on pantries are now all the rage

4. Pull out drawers large enough to house small appliances and keep them out of sight

5. Cabinet hung spice racks

6. Special drawers that tuck away the "messy" kitchen utensils

Each of these ideas turn heads and blow minds. Let's put them to work!

Functional Kitchen = Add a Desk

What is the latest "fad" in kitchen design??

ADDING a "kitchen office" to the space!
What more could the homemaker, cook or mom of the house want?? Yes, a place to drop her keys, store her "treasures" and look cute while doing it.

Here are some tips to make the kitchen office adorable, effective and usable:

1. Takes a "home" outside of the main kitchen work area:

2. Provides a place to charge electronics

3. Has a spacious desk

 4. Becomes the "pit stop" for notes, reminders and mail

 5. Has bookshelves for cookbooks

How cute are these designs? I know you want one too!!

Dare to be Dark

We're all about the LIGHT and BRIGHT kitchens, but every once in a while it might be good to switch it up and step out of your comfort zone!

How do you even start to do that? WELL, we are here to tell you how.

1. Go black on the cabinets and white on the walls. This provides enough contrast to bring light into the space and not close in the room. Also, by adding skylights to your renovation you can greatly increase your amount of natural light.

2. Too afraid of changing the cabinet finish? Leave that light and paint one or two walls dark instead and offset it by adding a piece of dark furniture (aka the bar stools) to bounce the dark color around the room.

3. Try the same tactic as #2 but instead just paint one wall of cabinets and offset it with a piece of dark furniture on the opposite side of the room.

4. Don't be afraid of going dark in a galley kitchen. By creating natural light through a window wall or skylights and painting the walls white you can lighten the space in new and different ways.

5. Is all that too scary? Try just painting the island dark and use a color. Such as this dark blue paint featured on Houzz as Hague Blue by Farrow and Ball.

Light or Dark? What's your kitchen preference?!

HOW TO: Create a Sociable Kitchen

Following our Kitchen series this week ...
Your kitchen is a gathering area.
No matter how wonderful other areas of your house may be, your kitchen
WILL be the magnet.

So how do you make it more sociable while still being functional??

Try these tips!

1. Include a Casual Sitting Area:
Add a small sofa or grouping of chairs so guests will have a place to sit.

2. Create a Cozy Nook:
This can be apart of a table sitting area, and make it look cozy by adding
pillows and drapery!

3. Open up with Barstools:
Everyone loves to be eye level with the cook, and barstools help to get on "their level"!

4. Make it Bright:
No one likes a dingy space... make it light, bright and airy for happiness all around!

STYLE THAT: Kitchen Edition

Each and every area of the home has a unique way of being styled that makes it just as important as the next.

We've discussed bookcases, nightstands and china cabinets ... today we tackle the arguably the most important statement in the home.
The Kitchen

1. Large Statement Vases in Color Scheme-
Choosing a pair of tall ceramic pieces within the color scheme will instantly spruce up an island or empty corner without cluttering

2. Less is Best-
Instead of lining up the toaster, blender and kitchen aid mixer... neatly tuck them away in a cabinet and choose small groupings of glass cloches or vases to stack in corners of the kitchen cabinets to pop a color or texture or interest instead of a messy appliance.

3. Whispy Florals:
Bring some height to your room by adding a tall vase of faux whispy florals for a change of texture and medium

4. Food Items as Decor:
You guessed it! Speaking of a kitchen...use items such as lemons for a yellow color scheme, oranges, etc to add to a bowl will bring a natural element to the kitchen
