Light It Up: Brighten a Dimly Lit Room

Do you have dark rooms in your home that you need to brighten up??

We've found some beginner tips on how to achieve this look ... and the simple, efficient and practical way!!

1. Embrace White
May sound like a no-brainer but using white and lots of it will always open up a room. Don't limit yourself to just the walls ... be sure to add pops of white in the furniture and artwork as well!

2. Wash the Walls with Light
Sconces, lamps and more ... using light in a useful way to brighten a room is very important. Make sure you know which areas to brighten. Washing the walls will help bounce the light around the room.

3. Cool Blue Color Scheme
The color blue brings in cool tones without darkening a room with a dingy yellow that may make a room close in. It also reminds us of the sky which is a wide, bright and open thought

4. Accents of Black
Yes this may seem strange, but adding small bits of black helps to contrast the white and pop the brighter areas. Find thin, small accents that accomplish this purpose.

5. Change out your Lightbulbs
This may be the easiest fix of all. Change out your yellow light bulbs to a whiter, cooler light

Brighten up your home before the winter for a fresh, bright and happy feel this season!

Choosing the PERFECT Large Chandelier

Part of the fun of a new construction project is being able to do site visits and see the progress that is made each day, week and month that passes!

This site visit was a special one as we were able to see the entryway of this gorgeous home take shape. It helped us begin to visualize what kind of amazing chandelier will be needed for this space.

How can you pick the PERFECT, large, modern chandelier??
There are several factors to take into consideration to ensure the RIGHT chandelier is selected for the space and will fit to scale within the design.

1. The Height of the Room:
Do you need something that drops significantly from the ceiling, or sticks closer to the top? If you've got height, you will want you chandelier to drop a good amount.

2. What is Below the Light:
Is this an entryway where no furniture will be below, or a dining room where the light will directly be lighting a specific spot? This will help in choosing a fixture with indirect or direct lighting.

3. The Shape of the Space:
Round, Square or Rectangle? What do you have going on? Many times, you can echo the shape of the space with your fixture!

4. The "Openness" of the Room:
If the room is large, grand and lite well, an open, large chandelier might be the key!

Stay tuned to see what we pick for this custom build's stunning entryway!

"How to Choose the Right Lighting for Each Room
Most rooms perform better with multiple layers of lighting and three types of lighting work well in many rooms, in addition to natural light.

1: Ambient Light-
You will want an ambient light, which is the general lighting for the room. You flip a switch and the overhead light brightens the room as a general light.

2: Task Light-
This allows you to work on a specific function with adequate light and it can be used with or without the ambient light.

3: Accent Light-
When you have a special object, such as art, or the focus over a fireplace, accent light will direct your attention to this area of the room.

Bedroom Lighting Tips -
-  In addition to the ceiling light, many like the task light of a

lamp on a dresser or desk in the bedroom.

- The best light for bedrooms is generally warm light, which is more flattering and restful. If you do a lot of reading in your bedroom, however, be sure to keep a
cool-light shaded task lamp nearby to prevent eyestrain.

As you consider you next remodel, make sure you place a
special emphasis on the lighting."

Happy Lighting!
