Sunshine and Song Inspiration

All the cold, gloomy weather has gotten us in the mood to dream a little into the warmer days!

We recently saw a room designed around a SONG. What an adorable idea.
We've seen inspiration from fashion, family, travels ... but a song. We loved the theme.

So we decided to inspire YOU a little during this cold winter with some SUNSHINE.

Prints, Canvases, or Shower Curtains to start off a great song anyone??

Yellow is such a happy color that we have used in design before,
and love the happy effect it gives on the space:

Anything goes! From a coffee cup, to a sunburst mirror.
Each little touch brings in a few rays of sunshine ;)

Having a happy interior will make you feel warm and cozy, even when skies are gray ;)

What song would inspire YOU?

A Day in the Life ... of an Installation

What is an Installation Day:
*Exciting
*Not-Usually Glamorous (don't take pictures of the DESIGNER on installation day!!)
*Long
*Need for Snacks
*Multi-tasking (carpenter, maid, designer, .... all in one!)
*Rewarding

We get to see THIS:
Become REALITY!
At this high-rise condo in the Mansion at Turtle Creek,
we transformed a flat into a warm, inviting home.

The trick about installation day is that our iPhone picture NEVER do justice with the beauty created during this day. SO That is why we have our talented photographer come back after the fact to take the glamorous shots to share.

Until then ... we will give you sneak peeks with the best we could muster .. our high-tech iPhone ;)

Beginning of the DAY:

Like we said -- there's not much "glamour" going on yet ;)

And then all of the sudden THIS happens:
What's a designer to do when the windows need washing?! Why not take a pic?

Our long time, trusted art installer, Fred.... We couldn't complete an installation without him!
.... And of course the pets. All pets seems to love new furniture ;)

See where it all started!
We are sharing a few of our presentation layouts with sneak peeks of the final product! READ ON!!!!

LIVING ROOM

With a classic color scheme of magentas, grays, taupes and creams with a splash of GOLD, we gave this condo the glamour it deserved.

The gold accessories throughout gave a nice continuity to the space!

Draperies were installed this week and helped to add the "icing to the cake" for this spectacular flat.

MASTER BEDROOM

Soft blues and jewel tones took over this otherwise
ordinary master bedroom turning blah into bling!

DINING ROOM

The stunning magenta pop of velvet in the dining chairs mixed with the bold abstract artwork
sets the stage for this entire home.

Custom, modern florals brought in the bright and bold colors to the simple,
yet elegant centerpiece!

Tying in from the living room --- the gorgeous abstract floral
wallpaper to complete the color concept.

CUSTOM BAR:

The custom drawn bar paired with stunning hardware and perfectly selected accessories makes this addition to the condo the icing on the cake!

Be on the lookout for the professional pictures in the
coming months of this gorgeous high-rise install!

Designing with YOU in Mind

When it comes to creating a space that is perfect for YOU,
it is important that the designer has YOU at the forefront of their minds.

Here at TCI  we make it some of our first questions and definitely our top priority to find out what makes you… YOU.
We always ask a few questions that can play into the design in so many ways…find out what those questions are and HOW they transpire into the design:

1. How does your family live?
- it is important to know which rooms are the most “lived in”
- do you have kids or pets that like to “rearrange” things
- do you prefer to live comfortably with little clutter or more streamlined and organized
This particular client loved to be comfortable… yet wanted a chic appearance. So we combined the soft sofa with the clean white fabric for a great pair.

2. Do you have any particular items that are meaningful to you that you would like to incorporate into your home?
- many times clients will have a piece of furniture passed down through the family or a set of china that has a particular color way that we will use as a jumping off point for the design

The client has a set of china that is displayed in the tops of her cabinets that combined the yellow and gray color ways that now make up her kitchen!

3. What is the color that you are most drawn to?
- most clients have a color that they just LOVE. We love to incorporate this. It is important for each client to feel at home in their HOME.
- this also personalizes the space to make it THEIR OWN!

This client loved the color blue but already had this dining table set that did not incorporate that color. So we put on our thinking caps and were able to pull it all together!!
What makes YOU ... you?

Design Motifs to Dream About

Design motifs are ALL around. We see them in fabrics, on walls and even outdoors!
... and no, we aren't talking about the "pineapple" motif from the 80's.

What are some of TCI's favorite design motifs?!

The Sunburst Motif:
This we see mainly in mirrors and we love to use it in different ways! In groupings, or alone, this circular explosion is a fun way to bring a splash to the room.

The Feather Motif
We just love this one. It can be used on walls as wallpaper (see below) or even as a stand alone accessory! Fill a jar full of feathers and jump on the bandwagon!

The Owl Motif
While this motif is found many times in nurseries and children's rooms (which we think is spectacular), we are also seeing this motif pop up around the house! Even on the front porch...

The Arrow Motif:
We believe this motif began as the staple "anthropology look" and was used as prints in fabrics and bedding -- That was the first look that hooked us with the "arrow" motif. But now we are loving to use this motif in NEW ways such as ARTWORK or WALLPAPER!

The Ginkgo Motif
Lastly, this asian influenced motif is a beautiful modern floral that we love to put to good use.

We used this motif as a banding on this custom shower curtain

What are YOUR favorite motifs?!

Leave it or Revive it - The answer to painting your brick

Brick -- Do you paint it or leave it
and let it have "character"??

We unravel the mystery for you. The answer is…. it depends ;)
You knew it wasn't a YES or NO answer didn't you??

When to PAINT IT:

(this simple coat of gray paint covered up a dark red brick and changed the appearance of the whole living room!) See the full TCI project HERE

1. When it is a "heavy" brick that makes the room seem dark and dingy… a fresh coat of a light color paint can instantly revive it to a bright, happy, and spacious area.
2. When there is another "showstopper" in the room such as an amazing light fixture, or an architectural detail, the natural brick could take away from the focal point.
3. When you are going for a more contemporary look -- this may go without saying, but a simple solid painted brick gives a much more clean appearance to the space

(This white painted brick- southern style home is a stunning find nestled in the beautiful landscape)

When to LEAVE IT:
(The natural brick is the perfect backdrop to this bold masculine space)
See the full TCI project HERE
1. When it serves as the jumping off point for the color palette -- Use the brick color to form your concept for the entire space and take advantage of the natural character.
2. When the brick is on the floor -- it hides dirt amazingly
3. When you are searching for more rustic and texture in your design

There are so many options and ways to incorporate brick the
RIGHT way to make the perfect room.
