Functional Kitchen = Add a Desk

What is the latest "fad" in kitchen design??

ADDING a "kitchen office" to the space!
What more could the homemaker, cook or mom of the house want?? Yes, a place to drop her keys, store her "treasures" and look cute while doing it.

Here are some tips to make the kitchen office adorable, effective and usable:

1. Takes a "home" outside of the main kitchen work area:

2. Provides a place to charge electronics

3. Has a spacious desk

 4. Becomes the "pit stop" for notes, reminders and mail

 5. Has bookshelves for cookbooks

How cute are these designs? I know you want one too!!

Should you add a little GLOSS?

Does a little shine scare you?? Well we are here to tell you why "gloss" can actually be a GOOD thing... if you use it right.

This is the inspiration picture of a home office we are designing for a
University Park new build... HIGH LACQUER=LUXE!

It will be stunning when completed with this edgy sheen...

Try it yourself! Here are 5 reasons why GLOSS, shine or lacquer will pack
a punch and turn your room to glam!

1. Gloss gives an accent area (wall or ceiling) extra punch.
The ceiling is a fun and different place to add gloss in an unexpected way
that is not too "in your face."

2. Sometimes a glossy neutral takes the place of needing to add a color.
We love the glossy cabinets used in this design, and while there is no "color," the addition of gloss to the neutral gray cabinets gives them just the right amount of unusual that a color isn't needed!

3. Glossy finishes are easy to clean.
Whether it is a paint finish or a glossy tile, this finish is the best and easiest thing to clean!!

4. It can add glamour to ordinary pieces.
Furniture or art pieces can become dull but with the addition of a little gloss, this cabinet turned into a shine of a piece.

The gloss finish applied to this gorgeous art piece gave it a completely different look that turned this entryway into glam!

5. It enhances architectural built-ins.
We love the use of matte and gloss finishes together in this design. It accents important areas of features within a build project.

Yes or No? Will you add a little GLOSS to your life?

Creative Desks for Gloomy Days

If you live around Dallas, TX ... you know it feels like it has either been snowing, sleeting or raining for several weeks now! While we still get out and about to meet with clients and be creative ... we have been spending a lot of time watching the rain from our desks.

Why not have a really CREATIVE desk to work from?!

You desk can define what work comes out of you. Do you want it to be fresh, new and inspired? Start by finding a desk that is those exact things.

Here are a few of our favorites from around the web.

The Dip Desk:
With a perfect notch for a book or two, this desk separates the two work spaces perfectly for multiple users to function adequately.

The Reclaimed Wood Desk:
This screams natural. And natural always helps the mind feel refreshed and renewed.

The Nook Desk:
Having a desk custom made to the form of a nook can help by saving space but also opening up a new view to see through beautiful windows in the comfort of work.

The Well Lit Desk:
It is always important to have great lighting while working. No one likes to strain their eyes or squint at a piece of paper. This design shows a new and fun way to bring light into your space.

The Chalkboard Nook Desk:
Do you find yourself writing on post-it notes all day long? And then loosing those post-it notes? WE DO. Why not write it on chalkboard? That can't get lost, and it looks adorable.

Hope you feel inspired to go out, get to work, and be creative!

How to Make your Home Office more Efficient!

Want to make your home office a less stressful and more efficient space??

If you work from home… or just enjoy using your home office for pleasure, wouldn't you like for it to be a FRESH and fun place??

Use these 4 tips to get started that we implemented
in our favorite home office project!

1. Look OUT.
It calms us to look at nature and the natural sunlight. Position your desk to
where you peer out a window.

2. Use wood with wood grain or painted wood.
This brings more nature inside as well and tends to be more peaceful as well as natural.

3. Utilize Built - Ins.
Having options in which to spread things out or reposition yourself throughout the day will help to give your mind a rest, such as a built in hutch to organize your "stuff" or a window seat to "take a break".

4. Be able to see the door.
Subconsciously this gives your mind ease, knowing that you can see anyone entering… and YOU can also exit to take a breather ;)

Let us know how YOU like to work!

Clearly, WE work very calmly and efficiently in our soothing space ;)
At least there is a great view!!

A Unique Industrial Home Office

Our client's unique style lead to this exciting office! They had already acquired many of the items to furnish the room through their travels and vacations, so each piece meant something special to them!

Wall Finish: We selected the paint finish on the walls and built-in cabinetry here. The focal piece in the middle of the built-in was found on one of our clients trips to Italy.

Nailhead on the Wall: A special touch in the room is the double row of nailhead that our client nailed in, one by one!

Striped Drapery: We also had these custom drapes made in this bold stripe to accentuate the dark navy wall finish.

A great industrial and eclectic home office!
