The 411 on Grout Colors

It's that small detail that usually gets forgotten until the last minute... grout color.

You might spend hours selecting and sourcing the perfect tile ... but the detail that is grout can make or break even the most perfect tile!

So what's your choice. We are here to tell you the in's and out's.

White on white.
This gives a small room a larger appearance. It gives a streamlined, clean and slab look.

Gray on white.
A soft approach to revealing the shape of a white tile.

Or even a particular lay of tile. Brick lay can come to life with a contrasting grout color

Black on white.
For a REAL pop ... go for the stark contrast of black grout to show off that unique herringbone or brick lay

Black TILE -
Reverse the rules from above --
Black on black for the streamlined effect

Look down! Black on WHITE! White grout makes these hexagons REALLY stand out.

Gray on COLORED tile.
A soft, clean approach to deciding what will contrast with the color. Instead of trying to figure out what hue matches what hue, go for gray to match it all!

COLORED grout.
Feeling bright?!?! Be Bold!

Pick it right and you'll have the perfect combo of tile and grout!

Perfect Palettes: Find the Right Color for your Space

Finding the perfect palette is the number ONE thing that will make the most of your space.

It's the first thing your guests notice as they walk in your door. So what can you do to ensure you PICK THE RIGHT one?!

1. Look at areas of the room that can't be altered - A beautiful whitewashed fireplace set the tone for the cream with a blue outflowing from the center
TCI Project

2. Decorative pieces that take center stage - With flanking art pieces that encompass navy and deep gold/khaki, the rest of the color scheme in the bedding fell right in place
TCI Project

3. The importance of undertones- Select a bolder color and then use neutrals with undertones of the same color temperature

Fail-Safe Color Palettes:
Black and White - Always classic and a simples easy scheme to implement

Monochromatic - Grays, whites, and more shades of gray

Bold Naturals - Earthy colors will always strike a cord and please the eye

Paint your wall Multiple Colors?!

We are here to answer that question!!

Why paint your walls multiple colors??  Because that goes against every ounce of our being to actually say that ;)

Well there is a time and place for everything ... and multiple wall paint has it's place!

1. Delineate a Space -
Choosing colors that coordinate with the color scheme and "arranging" them on the wall can help to make the room "understood"

2. Draw the Eye Up
Do you have tall ceilings or want to accentuate the height of the room? Paint the top half a special color!

3. Create a Unique Space:
This would be perfect or a nook or kids bedroom.... The ombre look is all the rage!

4. Set the "Scene" -
This particular room was turned into "story time" by a faux chair rail effect using paint

5. Accentuate Proportions -
Without the paint in this room, it would seem very small. By using bright colors in unique places, it brings out larger spaces that you didn't know existed!

We like this idea -- but definitely only when following these rules!!

Dare to be Dark

We're all about the LIGHT and BRIGHT kitchens, but every once in a while it might be good to switch it up and step out of your comfort zone!

How do you even start to do that? WELL, we are here to tell you how.

1. Go black on the cabinets and white on the walls. This provides enough contrast to bring light into the space and not close in the room. Also, by adding skylights to your renovation you can greatly increase your amount of natural light.

2. Too afraid of changing the cabinet finish? Leave that light and paint one or two walls dark instead and offset it by adding a piece of dark furniture (aka the bar stools) to bounce the dark color around the room.

3. Try the same tactic as #2 but instead just paint one wall of cabinets and offset it with a piece of dark furniture on the opposite side of the room.

4. Don't be afraid of going dark in a galley kitchen. By creating natural light through a window wall or skylights and painting the walls white you can lighten the space in new and different ways.

5. Is all that too scary? Try just painting the island dark and use a color. Such as this dark blue paint featured on Houzz as Hague Blue by Farrow and Ball.

Light or Dark? What's your kitchen preference?!
