My Weekend: Bows, Spandex and Nailheads

My weekend was.....

 grueling!

Not because of Halloween, but because of
13 year old Club Volleyball tryouts!

If anyone is reading this and has a close connection to NTR,
I'm pretty sure the selection system needs to be changed!

After lots of stress and lots of candy, my little setter achieved her goal and
moved up a team at her current club, Madfrog.
Congrats to her and all her sweet friends who also made difficult decisions!

Nailing down the offers went hand in hand with sticking nails in my eyeballs,
but on a posititve note, I am happy to bring you something really cool
(and a bit safer) to do with nails!
Use them on your walls (and not in your eyes)~

Another report from the Kaleidoscope of Homes:

Harlequin + Nailhead = Fun

Simple application, but such WOW! factor~

Looking up....

Custom idea for your media room or library...

As mentioned in my other nailhead fetish posts, get these at any
upholstery shop or fabric store... (they are most referred to as upholstery tacks)
or
get the DADs brand online here.

Now for two additional bonus pics from the pros:

My kind of room by designer Jeffrey Bilhuber

and nails on doors by Miles Redd.

As the night ended, my little setter below in turquoise! tights
didn't look too bothered by a round, white ball!

Let me know if you already have nails on your walls!

Until next time,
Traci

Kaleidoscope of Homes: Orange Crush

Are you stuck in a design rut?  Yes, I get that way from time to time,
but good thing it is only temporary!

For a bit of inspiration, I attended the Kaleidoscope of Homes in the
Shady Oaks subdivision located in Southlake last week...
...and it worked!  I took lots of pictures and will be sharing some of them
with you over the next few days...
(p.s. many showhouses do not allow photography,
but this one does!).

While I absolutely flipped over several of the master baths,
this particular girl's room (or a lucky guest room) made me do a double take-

Was it the tangerine walls? The monochromatic color scheme?
(hint... looks like it may be Benjamin Moore Citrus Orange...)

Or maybe the arched mirrors or "made for Traci" headboard?

Really, I can't stop there... perhaps it is the whimsical decorative paint or the art
flanked by vintage shutters.

Who needs a ceiling fan?

A few steps away... the sitting room-

Love the installation of the drapery panels and the fabric is to die for!

Every smart girls needs somewhere to study...

The attached bath is just as stellar!

(Money saver.... go for the bang with the glass tile, but instead of
applying to the entire wall, choose a section!)

Great details... carpentry makes the space and notice the painted ceiling.

Another fabulous light fixture... ahhhh!

the show does not disappoint.

Hurry, two more days for you to get ideas to incorporate into your house...
or call me and I will do it for you!

Until next time,
Traci

What's old is new... is reupholstery for you?

It is time for a client project update!

Vintage Chick has is going on!  I would consider her look a bit country french
with a splash of vintage glam.
Here's why...

She is a DIY (do it yourselfer) and has a great eye for style and color, but needed help creating a fabric combination in order to reupholster some existing pieces.

When I first entered the picture:

After I entered:

I don't typically recommend reupholstering furniture unless they have good bones
That is if the pieces are good quality and are still in style....

Vintage Chic still loved her bergere chairs as well as her wing chair
on the opposite side of the room.

Next step... modernizing her current furniture... and boy did we ever!
(I think I turned the corner!)

Vintage Chick could only get a small amount of the floral that she fell in love with,
but it is definitely the star of the show and
backed with the modern geo fabric... love it!!!!

The green piping customizes these beauties even more (same fabric as window treatments)...
tying the look together... that's the goal:)

A step further would be to even give the wood a distressed, antiqued black finish...
ahhhhh- a brand new look for less.

I'm sure you have an old wing chair sitting around... this looks brand new!

This Shabby Chic sofa was purchased new and VC had a great idea by
covering the cushion with a cream matlesse coverlet so her puppies
could jump up and take a nap!  Who knew?!

Fresh green kitchen wall color and sweet shades...

With that said, if you are adventurous, here are some resources to guide
your way through your first reupholstery project!

First, check out this chart to help determine how much fabric you will need.
Do a little fabric shopping to see what quality upholstery you like and how much it costs.

Weigh your options... new or repurposed????

IDS Fall Social: Outdoor Living Pt. 2

Now that you've seen the before and after pics of my outdoor living area,
here is a little summary of how we enjoy it!

Texas weather has been perfect, and as the current President of the DFW Chapter
my board members and I were privileged to host the Interior Design Society
at my house last week...
under the stars.

It was fantastic to socialize with 20 other area designers-
who have become great friends as well.

Anne Marie, Paula and I solving MAJOR design dilemmas-

Sweet Gaylynn and Kendra... love them both:)

Glamorous Kathy and Sheri-

Talented Barbara, Rita, Michelle and Lori

Kristy and I getting a kick out of something????

Nancy and my Princess, Ozzy (who is a boy trapped in girl's fur... more on him another time!)

The crew playing a game... hmmm- we found out some very interesting
tidbits about one another that night!

My role is President will end in December, but they will see me at the
IDS National Conference in
Vegas this January...
sporting my new role as Past President:)!

Thank you Alba for taking pictures and the rest of the chapter for just being you!

(on that note... if you are a DFW Interior Designer looking for support in the industry, educational opportunities, and more-

Before and After: My Yard...Outdoor Living

Here you go... a sneak peek (I get asked for this a lot!).

While every designer's house is always a work in progress,
mine has come along in the two years we've lived here.

There are several photos on my newly updated website, but I will
feature some of my favorite spaces from time to time... starting with the outside-
since that is where we all need to be these days!

Outdoor spaces are all the rage!

Let's go backwards-

After:

We were so pleased to find a resale home in Plano with a larger yard...
(to all my Georgia readers... this is considered large here!)

Thank you to our realtor, Mary Anne Collins with Keller Williams, for sticking it out!

I'm not sure what is the best feature...
Mike would say "television" or better yet the "grill"...
Austin would say the "Xbox" capability and I would say "the fireplace"... period.

Avery would probably wouldn't have an opinion (which would be the first time),
but if she had to come up with something it would be the "mini fridge".

(the fans were pretty nice in July and August)

Who knew that recliners were made for the outdoors???!!! Father's Day gift-

Here are some great shots by the talented photographer who shoots my finished projects-

Love the close ups-

Finally replaced the dead wood below and splurged on gas logs-

Before:

We did redo the pool as well (original from 1992) and we took out the diving board...
sore subject in our house!

Here are some pictures of the process:

I consider myself a lucky girl... and the outdoor living is toward the bottom of the list:)

If you are thinking "outside the box" and considering adding another room to your home-

Call me... it's the perfect time of year!

Until next time,
Traci
