My Own Kitchen Remodel: Fast and Furious

Have I opened a can of worms or what?

This is my kitchen this morning- sigh

I am living "your" side of a kitchen remodel and while I typically
recommend that my clients stay out of the house as much as possible...
we are in it- and covered with dust!

Here's the deal:

1. New House
2. Not so New Kitchen

Even my kid's friends were questioning the green tile with the herb accents... whoa-

3. My Bright Ideas/ Inspirations

4. The Plan

5. Reality

I will go into a bit more detail when I show you the finished product,
but for now... please know that I am fully aware of the fun that goes along
with a remodel including....

A. Electrician falling into the trench above while carrying
the old microwave and balancing a flood light on top-
ohhhh, could have been worse- he's okay:)

B. Contractor having to wash my dog after he walked through the
wet cement floor yesterday- and folded laundry.

The flip side to this post is that we didn't start this project until September 3
and I have my #1 team taking care of me during the process.

Thank You....

First and foremost, Kevin, who is making it happen

and the rest of my go to team including:

Barry, Jay, Jeff, Jonathan, Lindsay, Megan, Jef, Kevin, Alan, Mark, Todd

-and my friends and my blondes

The best part is that they are your team too if you call us for a remodel.

Stay tuned!

Banister Features: Same ole' Spindle?

Knee deep in remodels and custom builds these days
and finding my clients wanting to spruce up their stairwell...
to what? Iron balusters... (yawn).

I have to say... they are not for everyone!
For those who like to step out of the box a bit,
keep reading for ways to attract the WOW! factor.

Banisters…is their only purpose to help you up the stairs?? I don’t think so…
this is an excellent place to feature something unique! Something different, and new!

What an adorable lakehouse stairway!

Need an open, airy feel to your stairway to keep it from closing in??
This elegant, iron banister is the perfect conclusion.

Looking for a modern, log cabin feel? Mix your mediums!
Using wood and iron, the modern banister is here!

Another open staircase. These really help your whole room feel about 4′ wider!

Get creative and unique with your wood patterns down the staircase!

Until Next Time,

Before and After: Allen Bowling Center

We all love Before and After shots~

Here are some good ones of my project

BEFORE:
The public space was over run by patrons who didn't care if
they damaged the game room or had no problem instigating fights
that warranted the police on a regular basis! The ceiling was tainted by
years of smoking and I can't even describe the smell!

AFTER:

A family focused atmosphere for birthday parties and group events.
Walls came down, the floor and ceiling were replaced, pool tables recovered,
the disco inset on the ceiling was removed, lighting changed,
and talk about a paint overhaul!

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post this year, our only
beginning inspiration was the existing carpet shown above.

Here's another angle-

BEFORE:

This entire wall was removed and now here is the view!

Dark and Dreary

AFTER:
Fun and Festive

Thank you to my skilled contractor and uber talented muralist!

Until next time,

Mrs. White Walls No More!

Along with the Cheetah Couple, my client Mrs.White Walls is definitely making progress on her design project.  However, instead of selecting fabrics and furniture, we have been busy choosing paint colors, sourcing tile, selecting light fixtures and ultimately covered in dust!

You see Mrs. White Walls (as she cleverly named herself) has been putting off this remodel for years... and it is definitely time she took the plunge... and how beautiful it will be!

Take a sneak peek of the project in action starting with the before photos:

Kitchen before

Two weeks ago: Custom hood added, bar cut down and meaty molding added to the cabinet tops! Take note that the window is gone (along with the boxed fluorescent light) and hardwoods are installed.

Now: Granite in, wallpaper stripped (whew!) and stainless appliances making their entrance

The kitchen is only about half the meat of this project!  Mrs. White Walls now has new beautiful hardwood floors on the bottom floor of the house after swearing she'd put nothing down but tile:).  I know she is enjoying the low maintenance floors with her high maintenance puppy!  We still have the master bath to go, along with two other bathrooms, all paint, lighting and carpet!  A brand new house!

Tomorrow the kitchen backsplash goes in (the long awaited tile inserts will be arriving) and we'll be ready for paint on the cabinets.  The icing on the cake is the paint color for the kitchen... one of my very favorite colors. You'll see what it is during the grand reveal!

So... with the look of this photo- she will no longer be Mrs. White Walls... how about Mrs. Dusty Halls?

Stay tuned for the end result and progress on the other phases!

Until next time,
Traci
