Find 3: Home Theater Rooms: All in One

Another surprise from my trip to Dallas Market last week~

I popped into the Patricia Group to check out some Surya rugs
from the Candice Olson line and ran into this...

Maybe it's me whose been living under the rock, but I haven't seen many
home theater rooms with this set up.  Really, it's just like being at
Studio Movie Grill in your own home.

The Patricia Group has found a niche in Home Theater Design
and here are my top 5 faves from their showroom floor:

Love the shelf on the back of the sofa!

Next up... same idea but with an extra row of chairs in back.
(They are actually turn key... from furniture to audio equipment to the risers)

Just for me... a bit more transitional

Fabric acoustic panels to enhance sound quality

A bit of Hollywood here...

They even sell the popcorn machines and lit movie boxes!

Everything you want to make your Media Room the best on the block...
but you need me to get you in here!

Call me and we'll order you a room- pronto...

Until next time,

Man Caves vs. Mom Caves

As we all know, “If Mom’s not happy, nobody is happy”, so it is now fitting that
we are seeing the creation of “Mom Caves” surface on the interior design scene.

Recently, I was asked to contribute to an article for the Plano Star Courier and here are my thoughts... and for the complete article with more pictures, click here!

For years, we have created “Man Caves for our husbands and dads to
retreat to a secret space to unwind.  They have their theater rooms, gaming
rooms, cigar bars, wine grottos, masculine libraries, home offices,
over the top garages, outdoor living… and the list goes on!

Moms are now carving out small spaces for the to escape from it all and when
the door is closed, mom is off duty.  These Mom Caves actually provide a
place for Moms to work or explore a passion… Moms are doers!  Yet at the same
time, the cave must look pretty and be a place she wants to stay a while.

The Mom Cave also needs to be the sanctuary to hide in if she feels
like doing nothing… really tune out the grind of everyday life.
Leave the guilt at the door and take the time to recharge!

What?

-Small office (pay bills in style -equip with soft lamp and yummy scented candle)
-Craft room (a lot of storage and ability for the scrapbooking to take over and be a mess!)
-Meditation/Reading room (comfortable sofa or chaise, music, soft lighting and blankets)
-Girl time (enough seating for girlfriends, small beverage bar, coffee cups and martini glasses)
-Sewing room (storage for fabrics, large working table, good lighting)
-Guilty pleasure TV (watch the Real Housewives…alone!)

Where?

-CLOSET! (use vertical space for storage shelving)
-Window seat niche
-Master sitting area (use folding screen)
-Guest bedroom
-Underneath a staircase
-Staircase landing

How?

Since the space may be small, make it a jewel box and add:
-Gorgeous wallpaper
-Feminine chandelier
-Lots of texture (fluffy pillows, velvet and silk throws, plush rug)
-Patterned fabric storage boxes
-Soft paint palette (create a color scheme that is completely different than the rest of the house)
-Personalize it to you (mementos, framed family photos, favorite things)

Rules?

-Skip the overstuffed man recliner and make it a space that makes you smile!

Here's some fun!

Olioboard.com created a contest to submit concept boards
based on the artist's view of the perfect Mom Cave...very creative

For me, it is about quiet time… I can imagine my space with soft lighting,
a chaise lounge, stacks and stacks of design magazines, scissors, file folders
and sticky notes (maybe my laptop and a minifridge!).

A place where I can declutter “my stuff” which makes me a happy mom!

Until next time,

Super Media Rooms for Superbowl Day!

Day 5!!!  Superbowl 2011 in Dallas!

Beautiful weather... 45 and Sunny (however, a bit on the slushy side)

...Not at the new JerryWorld!

For the rest of us Dallasites that will not be headed to the new Dallas Cowboy Stadium,
we will watch the big game in front of our flat screens-
or if we are amongst the lucky ones...
in our media rooms!

Here's a pic of a window treatment we did in a media room in Frisco
(lots of yummy fabric helps absorb the sound)

Now it just needs some art... an original from Steve Taft may be just the ticket.  See the post
about another theatre room we finished in Dallas by clicking here.

If I had an empty room in my house, can't you see this one below fitting in perfectly???

Turquoise and Glam...perfect for watching my Bravo reruns... Rachel Zoe Project,
Jeffrey in Flipping Out and of course, the Real Housewives.

(I'm not so sure how this would sit well with the husband, however)

Here is a bit more casual ceiling, black out shades and over the top ceiling~

Speaking of "over the top"... WOW!

This family took "Man Cave" to a whole new level... it is actually a "Bat Cave"

Watch the Big Game like the Romans would have....

Or how about in just your comfy family room by the fire!

Enjoy the Superbowl and Go Steelers!

Until next time,

Whimsical Wall Art

Here's a little Whimsy for your Wednesday coming again to you from Mr. and Mrs. Smith's home.  Among the projects going on over there, the media room was in need of a spruce up.  Mr. Smith wanted something really original... quirky... dimensional... off the charts... vintage... creative...theatrical- and the list goes on.

I started envisioning myself spending hours at salvage yards, antique stores, flea markets and searching on ebay for the vision for media room art that Mr. Smith had in mind.

Lucky for me, later that same morning I walked into one of my favorite art galleries to the trade, La Montage, and saw this!

My mind started racing and I knew I had found the inspiration for Mr. Smith.  An idea turned into a custom creation... down to the carefully selected prized movie posters to the imitation popcorn.  We met with the artist and installed this gem in the theater room a few weeks ago.

Look at the detail... the trophy, movie reels, megaphone and lots of nailhead... WOW!

Here's a shot of the room:

Mr. Smith also wanted some linear height in the opposite corner, so the artist, Steve, created this number:

Needless to say, we were all ecstatic with the outcome and I didn't have to go to one flea market!  Here are some other theater rooms to inspire you-

Another Steve creation...

A bit of Modern Glam...

Love the chandeliers!

Call me if you are ready to complete your media room as well!

Until next time,
Traci
