Client Installation Teaser: Sophisticated Comfort

Yesterday we completed a beautiful installation of a dining room and
formal living room at our clients new home in Lucas!

All of the elements, including the wood bead chandelier, custom Bernhardt 10' dining table and much more brought this light and soothing room to life!

Using the clients existing sofa, rug, and chest, we created a new and open space for them to enjoy.
Be sure to check back next week for more details and sources!

Happy Friday!!

HOW TO...Choose Furniture for your Living Room

HOW TO.....Choose Furniture for your Living Room.

Where do we start every time we begin a new living room project? Well...you ask? Actually, we are sourcing furniture for a new living room project today!

Read on to see a few tips we have complied from Pottery Barn and around the design world when designing a living room and "how-to" make the right selections!

1. Start with the Basics:
Every living room needs a sofa, coffee table or ottoman, and lighting. After you decide on these main items, then it is easy to add lounge chairs, side tables and accessories. Just like icing on the cake!

2. Avoid the Trends
Stay classy...you don't want to make the investment of nice, new furniture, only to realize it has that "dated" look 5 years later. We like to say, stick with clean lines and classic shapes for your larger furniture pieces and make a statement in your art, colors and accessories ...
or a few smaller furniture pieces.
3. Do the Math
Get out that tape measure! Once you know what type of furniture you like, now it is time to make sure it fits! Use painters tape or a scaled drawing to draw out the pieces of furniture and be sure everything you love will fit correctly. What is worse that buying, loving and investing in a piece of furniture, for it to only come in and not fit?!

4. Stick to a Plan
Once you have made all your decisions, stay true to your plan. It's easy to second, triple guess yourself. But don't worry...you did good! Bring your design together with great lighting and accessories,
and step back to admire!

Client Project: Contemporary Fireplaces

I can't wait to show you this finished project!
Do you remember my client,
New York, New York?

We recently completed the photography session the full house renovation and we
will gradually share with you all the different rooms of the house!

Starting off, we reveal the living room of this stunning home,
and it's unique, custom fireplace surround.

A full room view helps to give you a feel for the masculine, clean and transitional style.

This beveled, stairstepping fireplace creates a stunning focal point for the room.
We flanked the custom wood fireplace with lounge chairs and bunching cubes
to frame out the style perfectly.

Want to see where this space started??
The Before

Do you like the look of a contemporary fireplace, but don't know where to start in the design?
Check out a few pointers below!:

1. Decide on a color scheme.
Do you want to create warm wood tones, or cool, grey stone colors?

2. Create straight, clean lines in your formation.
When deciding on your mantel and style of your fireplace, be sure to stick with lines that form the style "contemporary". Clean lines, straight lines.

3. Choose your material.
What would you like your fireplace to be constructed from? Stone, brick, plaster, wood?
Sometimes it is nice to go with a mixture as we did with the fireplace at the beginning
of this post. We mixed wood with tile.

4. Floor mounted or floating firebox?
For an even more contemporary look, many like to create a "floating" fireplace by mounting their firebox a foot or so above the floor without creating a seat or step below. Another great option is to bring your fireplace and firebox all the way to floor as we did!

CI Design Delivered Project: Transitional Living Room Space Planning!

Our FIRST CI Design Delivered project!

We recently completed our very first "Designed Delivered" Living room
and Kitchen Remodel. Take a look below for a sneak peek of the
 design and to find out
what the buzz is all about!

Don't forget to visit Connell Interiors to learn more about it!!

This particular client had an excellent taste
for transitional design. She loved greek key
chevron and trellis patterns...
which were able to incorporate all of them!

You will receive a rendered floorplan from the
dimensions and measurements that you supply us with:

And rendered elevations for your aid in
installing and creating!:

Visit our CI Design Delivered page to learn how you too can get the
Connell Interior Style in your own home!

Yes, YOU too can be a "do-it-yourself'er"!
We thought of several great tips for living room design
and space planning during this Design Delivered project
that YOU could implement TODAY!:

Here are some major points thanks to Houzz and Nest to consider
when planning the layout of your room:

1. Create seating arrangements that can actually be used.
Can you chat with a friend without yelling? Allow them to be flexible.

via
2. Allow ample space for moving through a room.
Do you have to squeeze by the coffee table? 18" is the standard distance to allow
from a table to a sofa or chair. If your space is tight, you can cheat a
little and go with 15" -- but not less.

3. Place the largest pieces first :
In furniture arrangement of any room, the major piece for the
primary activity of the room must be considered first –
the sofa in the living room

4. Be aware of traffic patterns
You can direct the flow of traffic through furniture arrangement.
Leave a minimum of two and a half feet for walkways and avoid
flowing traffic through a conversational grouping if possible.
5. Let your personality shine through
Ultimately, your home is an expression of who you are. Design your rooms
so that you are comfortable, with a realistic eye on your own taste and habits
rather than relying on a picture from a magazine. After all,
you’re going to be living there.

Orange and Navy: A Perfect Fit

When we are away from things for a while, we tend to forget how important they are~

Here's my list from last Friday:

1. My sweet client "Jane"

and

2. Her stunning orange armoire

Last year, we put the touches on "Jane's" living room by adding
soft draperies, but what impressed me the most when I started working with her
was the color combination she had going of...
orange, navy and cream!

Friday, we had a visit to pick out granite but we chatted most of the time instead:)

Sorry I don't have good pics, but the colors are so pretty in person!
Take a peek at the blue velvet stacked ottoman between the two chairs-
so cute:)

Another view... I loved the orange in the rug:)

My close up Iphone pic of the armoire- sigh

It is placed in her foyer directly across of the living room...
definitely a focal point in the room.

We tend to skip over the color combo of orange and navy when
thinking about designing our interiors, but it works!

Here's proof:

This entire room could be moved into "Jane's" house!

The weird part about this photo is that when I was searching for orange and navy rooms,
this pic popped up... which was featured by Cassie of Hi Sugarplum blog...
who earlier in the day contacted me since she lives around the corner.

SMALL WORLD!

Cassie is very talented at DIY projects, so check out her blog...
can't wait to meet her:)

Striking combo found on the blog Be Colorful

Another winner found on Cassie's blog

(my son has this lamp found at Target...
ages ago).  His bedroom is orange and navy and I
will get some pics when he cleans it up I can:)

Great inspiration board from Chasing Davies

Adorable plates from LA Plates featured by Cassie:)

And to finish out, I have coveted this chair since I saw it in "Jane's" house
a few years ago when we met.

If I snuck in and painted it navy, do you think she would notice?

Before I start my Tuesday, thank you again "Jane" for the yummy tuna croissants,
refreshing Chardonnay and delicious conversation.

I LOVE MY JOB and the people it brings into my life xxxooo

Until next time,
