A Custom Kitchen in Progress: Part 2

Well, it has almost been three months and we are starting to see the finish line!

My client, New York, New York, has taken a small "facelift" of a project and
turned it into a complete "overhaul"!!!

This is what I've been looking at over there for the past two months...

Which started out like this...

And today looks like this!

Okay, I have to admit there is a long way to go... but this is progress!!!!

Read about the full project here...

As a recap, we settled on semi custom cabinetry by Kraftmaid
and designed this beautiful kitchen and
this awesome wine bar... yum.

If you are having trouble envisioning this...
here's some help-

and this...

A full suite of Viking appliances patiently awaits in the warehouse-

A combo of Caesarstone and Blue Azul granite go in soon!

And... multiple options for lighting
(which has been a power struggle...wink wink)

Here's some favorites:

Island pendant lighting... still pending-

While we are at it... there's more.

Today:

Emser Contempo Tile

Coming soon...

Sweet potty
 Ridiculously difficult tile to source...
thank you Homero-

Kohler floating vanity...

Cool lighting from Restoration Hardware and
dark chocolate walls in Sherwin Williams
Well Bred Brown ...

New York, New York, has been an excellent general contractor
and lots of fun to work with... never a dull moment:)

There's so much more to show you... almost every room
in the house, so stay tuned for more.

Fingers crossed this kitchen is finished soon!!!!

Until next time,

The Ghost Chair

Enter the vanity stool idea from the youngest daughter.

My initial thought..."Just one more thing to clutter her already cluttered bathroom"

My solution..."The Ghost Chair!"

Basically it is invisible which is what she needs in there-
(you can typically see the clothing on the floor right through the chair:)

The original owners of our house built this bathroom with their twin
boys in mind.  Yes, there are two vanity areas in this bath but no knee
space for the gal to sit and primp... a must for a teen ager!

I'm liking it so far!

The trend is catchy... these acrylic ghost chairs are everywhere
and as slight as they are- they make quite a statement!

In the design world, we do see furniture made of lucite
(which is actually a brand of acrylic patented by Dupont)

Here are some shots from the Atlanta Market:

Found this great pic on Patricia Gray's blog and I love how
she included tips for cleaning acrylic and lucite...
Try using hot soapy water and a polishing cloth first-

Don't use Windex! Novus Polish is the product you should use.

As far as other furniture made of lucite, I could go on for days...
(maybe another time)

The best part is that acrylic = affordable:)

Happy New Year: Time for Bubbly!

Ring in the New Year with Bubbles!

Of course, we'll toast using our classic New Year's Eve tradition, but that sparkly midnight
beverage has me thinking about one of my favorite design elements...
adding circles to your decor.

These two top pics by Kravet show how you can add some whimsy to
any room and soften some of those sharp lines.  The fabric collection is from

Another circular motif has shown up all over the lighting world!

Check out this chandelier from the New York City Holiday Home 2010

Arteriors Home features a carved wood beauty

If you want to go a bit subtler, try a rectangular lamp from Allmodern.com
that has a soft bubble application-

Love this end table from our friends at Robb and Stuckey:)
And you can't go wrong incorporating circles on your wall with mirrors!

We'll be raising our glasses with bubbly tonight and looking ahead to 2011-

and enjoying our circle of friends:)

Happy New Year!

Market Madness: Day Four- Love the Lighting

Wherever I go, interesting lighting draws me in-
No exception in the Dallas Market Showrooms last week.

After looking at this pic, I'm not sure if it was the lighting or the hot pink/ black and white combo!

Now I did say "interesting" lighting not necessarily, "practical"...
maybe for your nightclub, beauty salon or teen suite

For your breakfast nook- all above from Cyan Design

Perfect for my your family room

Remember, it takes only one custom or unexpected piece in a room to catch the eye!

I ran into a friend who owns this sweet lighting line... the Jubilee Collection

These pictures scratch the surface... I am a light and lamp hound!  Now, why are all of you afraid of mixing and matching your lighting?  Tell me, tell me please!!!!!

Until next time,
