Contemporary Home Office Remodel

A home office...what do YOU use a space like this for? Work, emails, crafts, storage....the list goes on and on. But the one thing everyone wants as they spend time in a space such as this is to feel happy, light and clean.

We think we were able to accomplish all of these things in our most recent completed project...this contemporary home office with a slate blue and orange color palette. The custom built-in cabinet was painted in a coordinating grey-blue and given a light umber glaze to accentuate the cabinetry lines.

The writing desk from Hekman is a perfect base to this light, colorful room. It is paired with an executive swivel chair from Sam Moore that incorporated our slate blue color. The guest chair, from Vanguard, is upholstered in a multi colored fabric that brings our color palette together.
The custom cornice boards with unique nailhead design was made by Kemtex here in Dallas, along with the window seat cushion and pillows. Adorable sitting area.

The client's young daughter even has her own special place in this home office;) We used Global View's orange "Petal Power" wall decor to make her little space her own. She even has her own desk and custom ottoman that pulls in all the bright orange!

The orange and cream rug is also a beautiful Global Views find that really gives the room that perfect punch of bold pattern. See the clock on the side wall? It was made by a made named George Nelson who was an American industrial designer, and one of the founders of American Modernism. While Director of Design for the Herman Miller furniture company both Nelson, and his design studio, George Nelson Associates, Inc., designed much of the 20th century's most iconic modernist furniture.

Now what you've all been waiting for...a before and after image to "wow" you!

Wine Room Before and After

We LOVE this incredible transformation of an empty "catch all" room to a beautiful, elegant wine room.

Starting from this.....

To finish with THIS!.....

In order to create an appearance throughout the room to make it look larger, we did a faux finish on the walls to create depth and dimension.

The custom cabinetry unit with an antiqued mirror inset houses all the wine and storage for the space.

The round orb light pendants add a great visual interest to the ceiling.

The soft, warm colors easily flow throughout the house creating a great cohesion of spaces.

Custom furniture for the space was done by Hekman Furniture.

Custom Art from La Montague includes the canvas painted art and "gears" 3D art.

Layered Rugs - Tips!

Rugs, Rugs, Rugs!

We've been sourcing and purchasing rugs like crazy around here! Adding a rug to a room can spice up any space quickly. It adds color, texture and pattern to a room without having to add more fabrics.

We just purchased this Global Views Arabesque Rug for a client today, and can't wait to see it installed! ;)

Fill in the BLANK.
This "new" idea is something I love!
When you have a "big" area of hard flooring, it is nice to be able to split it up,
create contrast, and spotlight certain areas by the layering of rugs.

It also makes the room seem more plush, comfortable and inviting.

Start with Sisal: The best "base" rug, in my opinion, is a natural sisal or jute rug.
These rugs come in a variety of sizes and still give a soft hand to your feet,
but aren't overwhelming in color.

Choose a neutral base: Sisal rugs also come in lots of different tones of colors.
Find one perfect for your room.

Make it Yours - Protect: It's great to form a pattern and style perfect for your room.
But once you do that, you want to maintain it. That is another GREAT thing about layering.
Rugs are easily replaceable and the smallest rugs is a great protector for the larger rug,
or wall to wall carpet.

Go with Hide - Create Contrast: A big fad is to layer the natural rug with a hide rug.
Finding the perfect hide rug can be tricky, but once you do...very rewarding!
This also gives a great contrast in color from just a basic neutral rug in the room.

Spotlight something Special - Sheepskin: Use smaller rugs to set underneath the
"spotlights" in the room that you want to feature. Sheepskin may not be my favorite
aspect of this layering, but it definitely softens the room nicely.

Pick a Pair: Find two that you love and pair them!

Mix and Match: It is just great to mix and match patterns and colors.
Has anyone else done this in their home?? I love to see new ideas using this "new" technique!

Until Next Time,

My visit to Young Frankenstein and all that Gothic decor!

So maybe it wasn't Wicked, but it sure was fun!

Thank you Jenny and Kathy for taking Kristen and I on a double date to the

(crutches in the car, but I hobbled my way through it!)

We started out at The Porch on Henderson Ave in Dallas... yummy-

 Cocktails first....
(my signature Grey Goose Dirty Martini... after hours of course:)

(Here's a quick host/hostess idea for you to have your drink embellishments handy!)

Kathy and Jenny had the Crab Cake Salad and...

Kristen and I went in for the House Favorite... Smoked Brisket Enchiladas

On to the set. As I watched the musical, of course my eyes drifted to the stage decor and I
was reminded of a huge Dallas design trend that hit strong about 10 years ago-
especially in the suburb McMansions.

Medieval furnishings are still prevalent and there are plenty of homeowners that go for the Gothic look.

Typical Gothic arch and large stone walls

I know I've seen this window treatments in a Frisco model home!

Heavy wood and metal chain

Carved furniture...

Do you know someone with this bedroom suite?

 or this chair?

or maybe you'd like to place any order for this master suite?

I'm game if you are!
