Finish out those Forgotten Spaces!

As I begin to work on a new custom home project with a lovely new client,
I am reminded that NOW is the time to look for those nooks and crannies
that you can make functional in your home...

FOR STORAGE...
or
JUST FOR FUN!

Pouring over the blue prints to finish out potential "dead" space is the first step,
but the creative options may not present themselves until framing...
when you can actually see through the walls!

If your house is d.o.n.e., you are still in luck. Call me and
we will work with a contractor to break through the existing
drywall and make a great space.

Take a peek at a few ideas below:

What a cute resting spot?

Here it is all about the architecture... and the gorgeous window doesn't hurt-

As you can tell by the division in the flooring, this job must
have been done after the fact.  Bravo... homeowners...
for recognizing the free space and putting it to use!

Super fun way to utilize the space underneath the staircase!

Love the privacy with the drapery panels-

My favorite... DREAMY!

Don't forget attic spaces!

And last but not least, convert those closets!

So, YES, think storage, but also think about some fun spaces you
can create for your special someone (3 ft. blonde?)...

Until next time,

Your Furniture: Step by Step

Have you ever wanted to WATCH your furniture being made?
If you live in the Dallas Metroplex, here is your chance!

Yes, the bookcase was hand carved (and would look
PERFECT in my house)-

Josey Kennington of Paloma Creations is the newest trade member of the
DFW Chapter of the Interior Design Society... and we are thrilled
to have her be a part of our group!

Josey hosted our last meeting and gave us a tour of her
fabulous facility.  Have you ever watched "Designer's
Challenge" on HGTV and seen the clients and designer
visit the factory to see their pieces being created?

Same idea... really quite amazing.

Acrylic. Glass. Mirror. Metal. Wood.
Leather. Marble. Granite. Iron

(she could probably make something out of Silly Putty)

Here are some glimpses from behind the scenes:

Artisan at Work

Almost there-

Check out the details and hand drawn plans-
Any custom piece you can dream up...
or that I can dream up!

(Best part... it only takes a few weeks)

I WANT THIS ONE TOO!

No MDF used here:)

Q.U.A.L.I.T.Y.

Any paint color... any metallic... any carving

From a picture, piece of fabric or a rough sketch...
here you go-

If you are ready to walk the process... step by step...
call me and we will make it happen with Josey
and her talented team!

Until next time,

A Warm, Whimiscal Gathering Space

Does artwork get much cuter than this?

Take a peek into the design process of my client Glamma who lives in Gunter, TX-

Any day now, Glamma will become a grandmother to eight sweet babies...
all under the age of 5!

YIKES!

She and her (patient) husband built an addition onto their already beautiful
home to create space for her three daughters and families to visit.

Not pictured is the stylish bar and extra bedrooms upstairs... it goes on and on-

Glamma has a keen eye for design and embraces the use of color...
a dream for me!

My goal was to help her fill these walls with artwork that was unique-
with a splash of whimsy.

We started with this custom mirror she had created and this awesome
venetian plaster wall color in the attached bath.

(Based on this alone, I knew I'd love this!)

The other factors we needed to consider were the upholstery on the chairs,
the existing area rug and the fabric for the roman shades.

It was only natural to bring on the turquoise... woo hoo!

Next, we took a trip to my favorite Go To art gallery

for one of a kind... off the beaten path...
down right special artwork.

We nailed it!

Glamma wanted to keep the space comfortable and a bit more of a grown up feel,
not necessarily a playroom look.

This custom piece by artist Steve Taft was perfect---

Unfortunately, the pieces didn't photograph well, but you can see
how well the set filled the space and added a custom look.

Another empty wall where we commissioned the talented
Elle Designs to make us this!!!!

So personal for Glamma's family:)

And the best of the best from Elle!

Together, we designed a showcase for the grandbabies which brings in
all the colors we are working with and a grande touch of whimsy!

(Baby MacKenzie is due any day now!!!)

One of the best features of these canvas beauties is that the photos are
developed on a foam board and Velcros on!

So yes, as the babies grow, the photographs can be switched out!

Love practicality-

(Funny, we created two blank canvas' just in case there any extras in the future!)

----------------------------------------------
Just for kicks here is a true insider look at what "sometimes"
happens during the design process:

We chose lamps and made sure they were the correct color using a paint swatch -

... and cool, this is what came out of the box-
baby blue????

Dear Uttermost,

If you are going to change the dye lot on a lamp,
please contact the buyer before the order is placed!

Arghhh!,
Frustrated Designer

Plan B Resolution:
Replaced with this beauty and will ship directly to Glamma

It was so nice to be a part of a creation of a space filled with so much love!

Until next time,

Traci

Bring Habersham Home!

I know this is a small pic, but it is massive in style!

My daughter who live in Austin is looking for bedroom furniture
(which is totally hilarious since she has not one design bone in her body).

I offered to send her some photos of options, but she was up for the
challenge and went shopping a few weekends ago.

The first dresser she emailed had some sort of tree bark feature on the the front
of the drawers... uh no.  She got better as the day went on, but of course
did not pull the trigger and seal the deal!

(It's better that she sticks to her day job:)

So... last week I thought I'd offer her our master bedroom furniture
(which is 12 years old)
and she kindly turned me down and said it was too big for her room.
I think she was being kind... but isn't FREE the best kind?

I want the look above... or the look below brought to you by

American Treasures... wow!

During the Dallas Spring Market, I met the local Habersham rep, Mark,
and he has been sending me eye candy ever since!

This would make a perfect bachelor's chest for me you!

Habersham is a leader in high end furniture who is known for
expert designand quality craftmanship.

The artisans hand finish every piece and sign and date it... truly making it custom for you!

The wood/mirror combo is soooo up my alley!!!

Heart flutters-

They describe the American Treasures Collection as:

Timeless style. Clean, classic lines

Who does that sound like?  I LOVE IT!

While Habersham is new on the block for this more modern look, take a minute to view what they are known for... it is simply stunning!

Custom Cabinetry

It takes my breath away...

Check out the finish!

The scrollwork on the glass fronts... ahhhhh

Entryways as well-

 and bathrooms, too!!!!

Another surprise is that they customize dressing areas as well...
check out the website to see them.

If you are ready to bring a little Habersham to your home, call me!

Until next time,
Traci
