The 3 types of the "Zig-Zag" Pattern

The zigzag pattern has been the talk of the town for some time now!
But did you know there are actually 3 different KINDS of this pattern?!

CHEVRON, HERRINGBONE, and the FLAMESTITCH

Chevron - This pattern comes to a "V". Our favorite places to use this are in a backsplash or on wood floors. We brought life to this dining room with this fun pattern!
Herringbone - Placing rectangles in a staggered zig-zag pattern. It's often found in tweed clothing but has made it's way to kitchens and floors in many homes! See a few ways we incorporated it below:
Flamestitch - This is a zig zag pattern with lots of "peaks", and different gradients of color. It is an age old motif that has been used in many countries. We used it in these curtains and LOVED the end result!

We want to know what YOUR favorite zig-zag pattern is!! Which one would you use the most?

Modern Uptown Loft - Big Reveal!

We are so excited to share with you our most recent photographed project!!

Last summer we had the privilege of working with an amazing client
through a long-distance design process! They lived in El Paso, and their daughter was going to be moving to Dallas to attend Medical School here.
So we got everything in tip top shape and ready to go for her when she arrived.

In one week, we completed a remodel of this uptown loft,
AND furniture installation and design!
What a reward it was to stand back and see the result!

After seeing a few color scheme options we proposed, the client decided
on the bold turquoise, black and white scheme for her main living areas.
Ahhh. It turned out so crisp and clean.

The wallpaper from ID Collection was the icing on the cake for the entry wall.

This gorgeous chair from Cyan Design was well worth the wait!
After being backordered, ;(
it finally found it's home in this perfect spot.

Each little nook was well thought out. With an eclectic mix of turquoise
and metal / glass, this view from the loft is stunning with this custom
painted Vanguard console.

Even more of a show stopper is the dining room. With the custom blown
glass wall plates from Viz Glass and turquoise chandelier from Cyan Design ...
This dining room can't wait to be used for a dinner party ;)

Upstairs, the client went for a magenta color scheme that we adore!
This "loft" space is used for her studying and relaxing. The custom wall mural f
rom JF Fabrics is the backdrop to the amazing space.

In her Master Bedroom, we went for a more calming feel to the magenta
and black color scheme by bringing in white bedding, and drapery.

The custom artwork from La Montage's artist, Blakely Bering,
combined all the colors beautifully!

Downstairs, the guest bedroom is nothing but FUN, FUN and Adorable
The citrine and cobalt color scheme was the perfect touch to a small space.

The drapery and art really made this room come to life!

We couldn't be more excited about how this Uptown Loft turned out
and hope that our sweet client enjoys it everyday!

Design Obsession - The Chevron Pattern

Another find in Vegas!!!

The main buyer for Greenhouse Fabrics-
isn't she adorable?
(she reminds me of Ashley... hard to get out
of the motherly mode!)

I've been ordering from Greenhouse for years and was pleasantly
surprised to meet Leah as an attendee at our
Interior Design Society National Conference.

She had some awesome new fabric introductions and we shared
our like passion for the Chevron...

If you have been living under a "design" rock... here you go:

Chevron: I like to define the chevron pattern as...
"a splash of happiness". Because it is! Just lines and colors...
and make such a smile!

Some of you may have seen this pattern when Missoni came out with their
collection at Target back in the fall. Here are some of their
recent patterns. How great!

Just a splash of this fun "zig zag" pattern will recreate a whole room for you!

Hello Pretty Things posted this to their blog and I fell in love with the idea!

A quick and easy addition to make your floor "pop"! This rug is sold at West Elm.

Another design from West Elm is this stylized chevron in a duvet. Chevron
doesn't just have to be crisp... it can have some movement to it too!

Feeling brave?? (And very patient) Try out the chevron pattern on your WALLS!

Add interest to your wall through painting in a pattern!
(this would rather time consuming, maybe enlist some helpers)

Pillows are also an easy addition! There are thousands of places that sell
chevron pillows now, but check out Lacey Placey on Etsy.
I have purchased some of her pillows, and they are
absolutely gorgeous! (and inexpensive!)

She will custom make any size for you as well!

For all you new moms out there, she makes chevron burp clothes too!

Lots of bright and fun colors!

Another idea: You can zig zag above a mantel through art work.
I could even paint this ;)

If your other furniture pieces are simple and patternless, a chair like
this can brighten that room right up! Urban Outfitters has a fun chair:

They also have a duvet in a zig zag pattern!

Adding a zig zag rug to a room really changes the whole feel for the space.
It gives it a bit of a refreshed step and a definite contemporary ambiance.

This burnt orange zig zag rug gives this dining room a great floor
 for a wonderful design.

Even the small accessories make a huge difference!
Anthropologie sells this wonderful basket!

Last but not least...don't forget to stay organized in style;)
Plum Paper Designs sells these wonderful little trinkets!

Be Bold!
