Bedscape Backgrounds for your Best Slumber

Your bedroom speaks a lot about yourself and how you live. Shouldn't you personalize it with the upmost backdrop that could set the stage for the perfect end of the day?

We found a few of our favorite, most out-of-the-box bed backdrops from a flipbook on Houzz world that were our favorite and wanted to share them with you!

Would you be brave enough to be so bold? We LOVE clients that want to take a chance and give us the rope to let loose!

"1. Putting math problems behind the bed leaves dreams free to roam in this North London suite. You could draw your own, or go dust free with math-formula wallpaper."

"2. Bleached salvaged wood and concrete create a surprisingly serene backdrop for an industrial-style platform bed in Santa Barabara, California."

"3. A map of the world painted on the wall and a dramatic black task lamp work wonders in this moody Vancouver bedroom."

"4. A cane wood four-poster bed, chevron table lamps and festive wallpaper are highlights of this New York bedroom."

"5. An assortment of tin tiles that were custom painted line the wall of this
Houston bedroom."

Set the Tone with Flooring

Different types of flooring can set the stage for the whole room...
and we are knee deep in selecting options for our new build projects!

Let's start with Exhibit A : The Bedroom! Once you've selected what stage you will set with your floor, the rest will fall into place.

Here are 5 ways to kick start your most restful room.

1. Go soft with silk: You can't go wrong with a cloud like texture beneath your toes. This will give the room a relaxed, comfortable sense of style

2. Warm up with wood: For a more refined, clean and sharp look, we choose wood. This will also give the space a warm glow with the color of wood.

3. Add a pop with colorful rug: When the room starts to become monochrome, we add a colorful rug to separate the tones.

4. Weave texture with sisal: For a more natural, earthy style, the sisal or jute rug can be used. This brings the outdoors in and feel almost like a retreat or spa atmosphere.

5. Be refined yet weathered: Wanting to feel comfortable yet not completely put together? This look is for you. A rough painted wood floor transforms the style of this room.

What do YOU choose for your style and look?
How do you step out of your bed each morning?

Operation 17th Birthday Surprise Bedroom Makeover!

When we moved in our house over two years ago, my then 14 year old wanted
a fresh start… which equated to a pure white bedroom. Of course we needed to use her existing furniture but she really didn’t want any color.

So there it went: white paint, white trim, white bedding.

1.5 years later… she’s done and wanted a new look.

Her request was “Antiquated, slightly grunge and cluttered”

Ummm…. okay. So I went to work at it feeling not so comfortable with this design aesthetic - since I have never heard of it before - and she basically shot down every idea. Like some of our paying clients,
she could not see the finish line so she decided to do nothing.

Another year later, still talking about a redo, operation “Surprise 17th Birthday” sprung into action! I decided to just go for it while she was at school and surprise her-
no matter what the end result could be.

Here’s a photo story of the tale:

BEFORE Pictures:
As you can see ... white .. and teenager.
(she removed the white drapes already and took off the 3-D
origami art above her bed- sigh)

She HATED this headboard...

The Process:
Thanks to my wonderful team, we had plenty of help putting this puzzle together!

(Jesus and Ozzy, holding down the fort)

If this isn't "antiquated and slightly grunge" ... I'm not sure what is!
(I spent a lot of time in antique stores)

Thanks Terra ... Somebody had to do it.

And of course the longest part of the process ... planning out the wall designs.

Good thing we had help!

Operation SURPRISE:

What would a surprise be without a little iPhone tracker stalking to make sure
we knew exactly when she'd be home?!

BEST Reaction:

She clearly loved it ;)

Check out her video reaction here

Final Product!!

From the video and the huge smile, you can see that I hit a home run.
Thanks to the TCI team for helping me pull this off!
 Happy Birthday, my Avery!

Modern Uptown Loft - Big Reveal!

We are so excited to share with you our most recent photographed project!!

Last summer we had the privilege of working with an amazing client
through a long-distance design process! They lived in El Paso, and their daughter was going to be moving to Dallas to attend Medical School here.
So we got everything in tip top shape and ready to go for her when she arrived.

In one week, we completed a remodel of this uptown loft,
AND furniture installation and design!
What a reward it was to stand back and see the result!

After seeing a few color scheme options we proposed, the client decided
on the bold turquoise, black and white scheme for her main living areas.
Ahhh. It turned out so crisp and clean.

The wallpaper from ID Collection was the icing on the cake for the entry wall.

This gorgeous chair from Cyan Design was well worth the wait!
After being backordered, ;(
it finally found it's home in this perfect spot.

Each little nook was well thought out. With an eclectic mix of turquoise
and metal / glass, this view from the loft is stunning with this custom
painted Vanguard console.

Even more of a show stopper is the dining room. With the custom blown
glass wall plates from Viz Glass and turquoise chandelier from Cyan Design ...
This dining room can't wait to be used for a dinner party ;)

Upstairs, the client went for a magenta color scheme that we adore!
This "loft" space is used for her studying and relaxing. The custom wall mural f
rom JF Fabrics is the backdrop to the amazing space.

In her Master Bedroom, we went for a more calming feel to the magenta
and black color scheme by bringing in white bedding, and drapery.

The custom artwork from La Montage's artist, Blakely Bering,
combined all the colors beautifully!

Downstairs, the guest bedroom is nothing but FUN, FUN and Adorable
The citrine and cobalt color scheme was the perfect touch to a small space.

The drapery and art really made this room come to life!

We couldn't be more excited about how this Uptown Loft turned out
and hope that our sweet client enjoys it everyday!

Client Project: Master Bedroom Retreat

We recently completed a Master Bedroom for a wonderful, long time client.

You may remember their Contemporary Home Office from a few months ago?

We were thrilled to continue the cohesive color palette throughout the home.
This blue, grey and cream scheme creates a very calming, yet sophisticated look for a master bedroom.

(P.S. At TCI, we use all color palettes... not just blues:)... however, you
may beg to differ! It's such a soft, peaceful color which easily
lends itself to many transitional looks)

Take a look at our handiwork:

A small seating group finishes out this cozy corner. Using Arteriors lamps, Vanguard Lounge Chairs, and a Taylor King Ottoman, this corner is very inviting to curl up and read a good book!

The bedroom furniture included a custom upholstered headboard, nightstands, bed bench,
a mirrored armoire, and dresser from Drexel Heritage.

The unique, geometric duvet and coverlet, made by Legacy Home,
form the perfect concept for this space.

The antique mirrored armoire helped to bounce the light around the room.

What do you think?? We are incredibly pleased with this installation!
