Beauty and the Beach House

We're back in TX!

We spent the week at Brigantine Beach, NJ to celebrate my parent's
50th Wedding Anniversary-
Congrats again, Mom and Dad!

Brigantine is located just outside of Atlantic City,
which of course which allowed us to spend some time at the casinos:)

The beach house we rented was beautiful...
just look at the fabrics throughout the house!

Below is the bathroom where my sister stayed....

This was my bath...
(one of these is not like the other!)

NOTE:

1. Do not put a tiny square mirror over the tiny vanity
2. Do not put the light switches between the tiny square mirror and tiny vanity
3. Do not put the ONLY outlet near the floor

Good thing I'm not high maintenance:)

On a serious note, the three level house was gorgeous
and we had a fabulous week with my immediate and
extended families... it was wonderful to see you all!

We gave my parents a party on Tuesday and I decided that if I lived
any where near NJ/NY, I'd be at least 50 pounds heavier... yikes!

I did take advantage of some "me" time
which I cherished early, early in the morning...

The water, my playlist and my Nikes-

Thank you Mom, Dad, Tom, Tricia and the rest of my
NJ family... we enjoyed our visit very much!

Now... back to work!

Until next time,

Painting the Perfect Picture: A Week at the Beach!

The Lazy Days of Summer!

We just returned from a week at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina- what a treat!
Lots of lounging at the beach in beautiful weather, bicycle riding through lush greenery
(it is literally a mini rain forest),and making wonderful memories with extended family.

All 15 of us stayed at this gorgeous beach side house... rock star amenities!

However, I could not leave the work in Texas!  What is wrong in this picture?

If you guessed this shrieking paint color... you are right!

I couldn't let it go, but I did refrain from leaving a note with new paint color suggestions
(instead I left my business card on the counter:)
,
The drapery panels were the obvious start for the color inspiration... but, oops...they missed!
Bad news... the house is up for sale and not likely to sell with that kitchen wall color
Good news... it's only PAINT!
We don't want our kitchen to look like our pool algae!

Let's try these instead!

Here are some tips from my ezine this week on how to select the perfect paint
color for your kitchen. If you are not a subscriber,
don't miss out- subscribe now!

  • Use your clues! In this case, I would have selected a green tone from the window treatment fabric.

  • Sample Boards! Instead of painting samples directly on the wall, test on at least an 8x10 sheet and move it around the room to see how the paint reacts to different lighting.

  • Cabinet Contrast! If your kitchen cabinets are a honey color, steer clear from a yellow that may blend in too much. Go either lighter or darker for a contrast. Be careful using a deep terra cotta with dark wood tones as well.

  • Are you warm or cool? What colors do you like? Warm colors such as red and yellow are stimulating and tend to increase appetites while cool colors like blue and green are relaxing and may decrease it. If you go warm and gain a few pounds, don't blame me!

  • Be consistent! If your family room is attached to the kitchen, choose a tone that relates to your sofa accent pillows or artwork- as long as it works with the other elements in your kitchen.
Last tip: take a look at the pic below. House Beautiful magazine has an interactive
tool on their website that allows you to try different colors in rooms without
running to the paint store!  Try it!
Paint colors are a specialty of mine, so call me if you are stuck in a rut!

Now for more fun-

Back in Texas and back to work! If you have a favorite paint color for kitchens,
leave  a comment... I'd love to know!
Bye Bye Beach!

Until next time,

Sassy Skirted Chairs!

Check out the sassy skirt on these chairs!  Love the pleats... it reminds me of my cheerleading skirts from back in the day-

This was a fun project with Mrs. Cave Dweller and we both were so tickled with the end result.  Yes, we have similar taste- which made the job even more fun.  She wanted something different in her kitchen nook so we paired the skirted chairs by Sam Moore along with COM fabric from Kasmir and Greenhouse with the custom banquette by Bentley Churchill (yes, you have seen it before!).  It just so happened that two of my clients went for this curved sofa/bench for their nooks at just about the same time.  As you can see, the fabrics definitely set them apart but the style for both is oh so chic!

The table is an ivory painted wash with a bit of distressing and pulls in the custom art by Elle Design.

Monogrammed Slipcover

No worries with another slipcover

Can't forget the ottoman... another must from Hickory Chair

Lastly, formal with casual works in this dining room

So, can you pull this look off in your own home or do you have to take it to the beach house???!!!

Until next time,
Traci
